In Latin America, the MFMI has catalyzed its members to create academic centers about microfinance, exchange programs, and cross-institutional sharing about curricula development and research.

In October 2007, former President Vicente Fox hosted a visit by members of the MFMI's network.

In July 2007, the INCAE business school hosted the MFMI's regional workshop for over thirty institutions in North and South America.
